Spearheading a new class: The New T-Roc

0
0

With the presentation of the new T-Roc in eight days’ time, Volkswagen will be introducing a new model that is set to make waves in the compact SUV class: the all-new crossover model boasts crisp proportions, a progressive design and a wealth of innovations.

In urban traffic or on long trips, the new T-Roc combines the effortless superiority of an SUV with the agility of a sporty, compact model. Both of these attributes are also reflected in the design, which adopts off-road features and infuses these with dynamism and urban appeal. At the same time, the T-Roc remains clearly recognisable as a Volkswagen. A style-defining feature in the front is the wide radiator grille with integrated dual headlights. Separate from the headlights, the housings for turn indicators and daytime running/cornering lights are positioned in the bumper, together with the light signature which provides the T-Roc with a distinctive appearance at night, too.

To tie in with the world premiere of the T-Roc on Wednesday, 23 August, Volkswagen is offering a livestream, beginning at 7 pm BST (8 pm CEST).

World Premiere of the new Golf SV

0

Since mid-2014, the Golf SV has been the vehicle of choice for those who swear by the Golf yet are looking for extra seat height, flexibility and space. Volkswagen has now refreshed its compact van with an update, which will be seen for the first time at the IAA International Motor Show in Frankfurt am Main (12 – 24 September).

As for technology, the new Golf SV features items such as three new TSI petrol engines, an expanded range of assistance systems, a new generation of infotainment systems (top system with gesture control) as well as more features in the standard equipment line-up. In terms of appearance, the Golf SV now makes its mark with its precision-sharpened design.

Following the Golf, Volkswagen is now modernizing the Golf SV as well with an extensive update. Not only that, the Golf SV now boasts a more powerful design thanks to new styling refinements. Changes include the newly designed bumpers, new halogen headlights with LED daytime running lights, full-LED headlights in place of xenon headlights, and standard LED tail lights on all versions. Five new alloy wheel types (16, 17, and 18-inch) and colours such as the new Cranberry Red shade of paint round out the updates to the exterior. The interior is enhanced with new decorative trim, fabrics, and leather seats.

It is above all technical innovations that define the Golf SV's update. Particularly noteworthy in this regard is the Discover Pro radio navigation system with 9.2-inch display and gesture control which is new in the Golf SV. Conventional buttons and controls are a thing of the past with the Discover Pro; manual control is performed solely via the touchscreen and five capacitive touch buttons along the left border of the new infotainment system.

In addition, Volkswagen is offering an interface to the infotainment system for tablets (and smartphones) in the form of the Media Control app. The app can be used to conveniently control many of the functions of the infotainment system from a tablet – regardless of where the user is sitting in the vehicle. Passengers simply connect their tablet to the Discover Media or Discover Pro infotainment system using the WiFi hotspot.

Volkswagen is additionally also offering the 'Security & Service' package in the Golf SV. It gives the driver access to assistance in a wide range of situations. Highlights include services such as 'Automatic accident notification', 'Roadside service' and 'Service scheduling' (scheduling service with the service garage).

Features providing greater safety and comfort in the Golf SV include new driver assistance systems, such as Pedestrian Monitoring (part of Front Assist with City Emergency Braking System), Traffic Jam Assist (semi-automated stop-and-go driving up to 60 km/h), Emergency Assist, the latest generations of Park Assist and the proactive occupant protection system, as well as Trailer Assist (including Park Assist), which makes reversing easier when towing.

Three high-tech TSI petrol engines as well as two efficient TDI diesel engines complete the planned drive system line-up. Both powerful TSI engines also come with Active Cylinder Management which deactivates two of the four cylinders in defined operating phases to reduce fuel consumption and emissions.

Orders are expected to open in the UK by the end of the year, when UK specification and pricing is confirmed.

Updated electric Volkswagen e-Golf powers into showrooms nationwide

0
0

It’s the all-electric car that looks like a regular Volkswagen Golf. Since its launch in 2014 the e-Golf has been at the forefront of the German manufacturer’s electric vehicle offering.

In its latest guise the zero emission e-Golf has new battery technology, revised styling and a host of connectivity features both in the car and in the customer’s hand via their mobile smartphone. Available to order from today at Volkswagen’s nationwide network of specialist e-Retailers, it is priced at £32,190 RRP OTR, or £27,690 with the Plug-in Car Grant included.

And it gets better. Participating Volkswagen e-Retailers are offering a deposit contribution of £1,000 at 4.9% APR representative on the updated e-Golf when the customer purchases the car using Volkswagen Financial Services’ Solutions Personal Contract Plan¹.

Volkswagen has enhanced the efficiency of the zero emission e-Golf and the result is a real driving range increase of 50 per cent compared to the outgoing model. A range of 186 miles is quoted from the official New European Driving Cycle, while with driving style and other parameters considered the range is effectively 124 miles. This is achieved thanks to an increase in the energy capacity of the e-Golf’s lithium-ion battery from 24.2 kWh to 35.8 kWh.

Power is increased to 100 kW, or 136 PS. This is up 15 kW in comparison to the previous generation e-Golf. That means the performance figures are improved too, with the 0 to 62 mph time now 9.6 seconds and a top speed, where the law permits, of 93 mph. Torque is boosted from 270 Nm to 290 Nm. As before, drive is via a single-speed gearbox.

That 124-mile range ensures the e-Golf is practical for the vast majority of commuter journeys. When the e-Golf needs charging the battery can go from empty to 80 per cent full in just 45 minutes when a 40 kW DC rapid charger connection is used.

Alternatively, charging from empty to full from a wallbox charging takes approximately 5 hours 20 minutes, which opens the opportunity to charge the car conveniently during the working day or overnight.

Staying with the convenience theme, Volkswagen’s innovative Volkswagen Car-Net mobile smartphone app makes it easy for the e-Golf owner to access various functions of their vehicle. They can start or stop the air conditioning from outside the car, even when it’s locked. They can also set the preferred time for charging to start and stop. And the most recent parking location of the e-Golf is displayed at the touch of a button.

That’s only the start of the range of online services now offered with the e-Golf. The standard Discover Navigation Pro infotainment system includes Gesture Control and is operated via an enlarged 9.2-inch colour touchscreen. It includes satellite navigation with European maps and a voice recognition system for controlling the telephone and navigation functions.

An additional feature of Discover Navigation Pro is that it includes Car-Net ‘Guide and Inform Plus’. This is a function that brings a suite of online information into the e-Golf including traffic, fuel pricing, parking space availability and weather conditions.

Along with Volkswagen Car-Net App Connect and ‘Guide and Inform Plus’, every e-Golf is equipped with the third pillar of Car-Net: ‘Security and Service’. The driver or front passenger can press a button mounted in the roof to speak to a Volkswagen customer service advisor, from where they can ask questions about the car or book a service. They can also press a separate button to call the emergency services. If the car detects that it has been involved in an accident, a connection with the emergency services will be established automatically.

Completing the interior of the e-Golf is the optional Active Info Display, which replaces the traditional instrumentation with a 12.3-inch high-resolution TFT screen that can be personalised so that it displays the information the driver wants to see.

The exterior of the five-door car features all-LED lights at the front and the rear. The lighting is further enhanced with the flowing indicator function at the rear, where the orange indicator light ‘sweeps’ across the tail lights.

Uniquely shaped front and rear bumpers characterise the e-Golf, and the updated car retains the ‘C-signature’ LED daytime running lights that are embedded within the outer edges of the front bumper.

A blue signature trim line runs across the radiator grille and into the headlights, and this is echoed with blue stitching on the leather-trimmed steering wheel and gear knob gaiter. At the rear of the all-electric e-Golf there is a roof spoiler and, of course, no visible tailpipe.

All Golfs include Front Assist, which is a safety system that uses a radar sensor to warn the driver of an imminent collision. The system will brake the car automatically if the driver does not react in time. An extension of this is City Emergency Braking, which detects pedestrians moving across the vehicle’s path.

Volkswagen’s e-Golf has traditionally been built in Wolfsburg in Germany. It is now being produced in Dresden, too, at Volkswagen’s futuristic ‘Transparent Factory’.

The Volkswagen Golf range is one of the broadest that any manufacturer has on sale in the UK. It includes petrol and diesel engines, with the iconic Performance Golfs (GTD, GTI and the four-wheel drive 4MOTION R) at the forefront. The sporty Golf GTE is powered by a petrol-electric plug-in hybrid powertrain and the line-up is complete with the all-electric e-Golf.

Volkswagen launches new Scrappage Upgrade Scheme

0
0

Volkswagen UK is encouraging the switch to its latest generation, lower-emission new cars by today launching an attractive scrappage scheme.

Owners of any diesel vehicle that complies with pre-Euro 51 emissions legislation, and registered before 2010, qualify for the Volkswagen Scrappage Upgrade scheme. They are able to trade-in the vehicle to benefit from incentives – ranging from £1,800 to £6,000 – against the majority of new Volkswagen models if the new car is ordered by 31 December 2017. The trade-in vehicle needs to have been owned by the customer for at least six months.

All new Volkswagen petrol and diesel cars meet the latest Euro 6 emissions standards. Furthermore results of emissions tests by Emissions Analytics and The Consumer Association have current Volkswagen products among the lowest emitters of NOx2.

Meanwhile, the marque’s range of sophisticated plug-in hybrid and fully electric models lead the EV pack. For example, What Car? this month (September 2017) declares that “the e-Golf succeeds because it works brilliantly as an electric car, yet it doesn’t compromise on practicality, equipment or driving dynamics.”

Alison Jones, Director of Volkswagen UK, said: “With this new Scrappage Upgrade scheme, there’s never been a better time to step up from an older diesel into one of our new, lower emission range of Volkswagens."

“And it’s not just buyers of our latest Euro 6 petrol and diesel cars who could benefit,“ she continued. “The incentives offered on our class-leading range of plug-in hybrid and full electric cars are particularly eye-catching."

“For example, combine our £5,500 offer on the new, longer range, e-Golf with the Government’s OLEV Grant and there’s a huge £10,000 to save. Add to the equation significant whole-life cost savings of running a fully electric vehicle in terms of fuel, BIK tax, Road Fund Licence, Congestion Charge for those driving into London, as well as parking incentives in many towns and cities, and the e-Golf looks like a very attractive proposition.“

Volkswagen has stated that it aims to be the global leader in electric vehicles by 2025. Already today, the brand offers fully electric vehicles with the e-Golf and e-up!, in addition to the Passat GTE and Golf GTE plug-in hybrid models.

Furthermore, and as part of the framework of Strategy 2025, the brand is working on a comprehensive electric car offensive. Underpinning this is a dedicated electric vehicle structure – the modular electric drive kit (MEB) – which forms the basis of an innovative range of electric vehicles, such as the I.D. and I.D. BUZZ, both of which are already confirmed for production.

Exceptional value, laudable roominess and high level of standard driver assist features help all-new Tiguan earn top spot in Cars.com’s Compact SUV Challenge

HERNDON, VA (September 18, 2017) — Volkswagen of America, Inc. is pleased to announce that Cars.com has named the all-new 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan the “Best Compact SUV of 2017.” Competing against six strong contenders for the top rank in the Cars.com Compact SUV Challenge, the All-New Tiguan won over judges with its comprehensive package of value, utility and high level of standard driver assist features.

“We are delighted that the 2018 Tiguan has been recognized by Cars.com as one of the best compact SUVs on the market,” said Derrick Hatami, Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Volkswagen of America, Inc. “Every aspect of the Tiguan is designed to cater to the needs of American drivers and their families—from standard driver assist technologies to an optional third row—and this award validates the All-New Tiguan is a serious competitor in the segment.”

“The 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan impressed the judges with its roominess and value,” said Jennifer Newman, Editor-in-Chief, Cars.com. “The cargo capability is top of the class, making this small SUV a huge advantage for shoppers concerned about getting the most room for the money. The Tiguan is also a great option for families, earning the highest possible marks in Cars.com’s Car Seat Check.”

The Cars.com Compact SUV Challenge tested vehicles with a maximum MSRP of $35,000 including all options and destination charges. Testing took place in the Chicago suburbs, where judges drove each car on the same loop for back-to-back impressions. In addition to value and spaciousness, vehicles scored points in other areas, including as-equipped driver assistance technologies, such as forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, blind spot warning, lane departure warning, lane departure steering and lane-centering steering. Ease of child-safety seat installation was also evaluated and scored in each SUV. Testing resulted in the following ranking:

  1. 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan (model tested: Tiguan SE 4Motion with Panoramic Sunroof)
  2. 2017 Honda CR-V
  3. 2017 Mazda CX-5
  4. 2017 Ford Escape
  5. 2018 Chevrolet Equinox
  6. 2017.5 Nissan Rogue
  7. 2017 Jeep Compass

Starting at $25,195, the 2018 Tiguan is available in four trim levels: S, SE, SEL, and SEL Premium. It carries a six-year/72,000-mile New Vehicle Limited Warranty that includes coverage of powertrain components—including the engine, transmission and optional 4Motion® all-wheel-drive system. Major competitors to the Tiguan—such as Ford Escape, Honda CR-V, and Toyota RAV—offer a three-year/36,000 mile basic warranty with a five-year or 60,000-mile powertrain warranty. Not only does the Volkswagen SUV bumper-to-bumper New Vehicle Limited Warranty offer longer coverage than its main competitors, all of its elements can be transferred to subsequent owners—up to 6 years or 72,000 miles, whichever occurs first.

IAA 2017: Volkswagen brand points the way to the automotive future

0

  • Volkswagen CEO Dr Herbert Diess: "The Volkswagen Brand will already be offering 23 all-electric models in 2025."
  • World premiere of the further developed I.D. CROZZ1
  • Public premiere of the new T-Roc2at the IAA
  • New torque-strong Polo GTI3completes the GTI family
  • Update of the Golf Sportsvan4 with Traffic Jam Assist, gesture control and more features

The Volkswagen brand is pointing the way to the future at its motor show appearance at this year's International Motor Show (IAA) in Frankfurt: along with the world premiere of the new I.D.CROZZ – a zero emission SUV that will go into production in 2020 – three other premieres will be featured: the new T-Roc, the new Polo GTI and the updated Golf Sportsvan. Dr Herbert Diess, Chairman of the Brand Board of Management Volkswagen Passenger Cars: "We will be thoroughly updating our vehicle range by 2020 and expanding into important segments. In 2025 Volkswagen Brand will already be offering 23 all-electric models and invest 6 billion euros in electric mobility over the next five years. In this process, the different drive technologies will continue to have currency for many years to come. It makes sense for diesel, petrol and electric drives to mutually complement one another."

In presenting the updated I.D. CROZZ, a four-door electric concept car, the Volkswagen brand is offering a look at the SUV of the future. This crossover of SUV and coupé, which makes a masculine and powerful impression, has been systematically further developed with an eye towards a production car. In its interior, the new I.D.CROZZ impresses with a large amount of space and a highly versatile seating concept. B-pillars were omitted in the I.D. CROZZ, so that the large swinging and sliding doors could be opened wide, and it is even possible to transport a crossbike without any trouble. The CleanAir system – a new Volkswagen development – continually supplies clean air to the interior. Now it is also possible to open and close the doors and activate the fully automated 'I.D. Pilot' driving mode by voice command. The front and rear axles each have one electric motor drive whose torque distribution is controlled via an 'electric propshaft'. The driving range of the SUV that outputs 225 kW (system power) and boasts a top speed of 180 km/h is up to 500 kilometres (NEDC) on one battery charge.

Showing just how broad the range of new Volkswagen products is at the IAA are the other show premieres: T-Roc, Polo GTI and the updated Golf Sportsvan.

The T-ROC: as part of the largest model campaign in the brand's history, Volkswagen will soon be extending its model line-up to include the new, expressively designed T-Roc. The crossover model, which is a completely new development, celebrated its world premiere just around three weeks ago, and it will bring fresh momentum to the class of compact SUVs. The all-round vehicle, which can be ordered with either front-wheel or all-wheel drive, combines the aplomb of an SUV with the agility of a sporty compact model. And it does indeed rock the segment – in varying ways depending on specification and above all colour combination. For the T‑Roc is the first Volkswagen SUV that will be available to order in two-tone paintwork with visually contrasting roof section (including the A‑pillars and exterior mirror housings). The overall package of the new T‑Roc is rounded out by modern assistance systems (Front Assist and Lane Assist are standard; Traffic Jam Assist is optional), a new generation of Active Info Display, agile, efficient engines, ideal connectivity and ride comfort that is on par with the Golf. Presented for the first time at the IAA is the T-Roc in an R-Line version, which offers even more exclusiveness.

Inseparably associated with Volkswagen is the letter combination GTI – the world's most familiar identifier for sporty compact cars. Now a new Volkswagen GTI is launching: the next Polo GTI, which is also celebrating its show premiere in Frankfurt. This means that the Wolfsburg-based manufacturer will have three GTI models in its 'GTI family' line-up: the iconic Golf GTI (169 kW / 230 PS5 and 180 kW / 245 PS6), the up! GTI (85 kW / 115 PS7) that launches in 2018 and the new Polo GTI with 147 kW / 200 PS. They all share the combination of a high level of agility, low weight, stiff yet comfortable running gear, a safe front-wheel drive system and an ergonomically optimal seating position behind a grippy sport steering wheel. Added to these are GTI-specific features like the typical red stripe in the radiator grille and the legendary 'Clark' plaid seat covers.

Another vehicle being shown to the public for the first time at the IAA is the updated Golf Sportsvan. This is the favourite model for all of those who swear by the Golf but prefer greater seat height, versatility and space.

Technical highlights of the updated Golf Sportsvan are three new petrol engines1(TSI), new infotainment systems (top system has gesture control for the first time), an extended range of assistance systems and new standard equipment features such as LED tail light clusters. The design has been sharpened with new bumpers, a new radiator grille and new LED tail light clusters. The Golf Sportsvan is one of the most versatile cars in its class with a cargo capacity of up to 1,520 litres and a rear bench seat that has 180 mm of longitudinal adjustment. Pre-sales of the updated compact MPV begin this autumn for Germany.

2018 VOLKSWAGEN ATLAS AND TIGUAN NAMED TO CARS.COM CAR SEAT CHECK HONOR ROLL

HERNDON, VA (September 20, 2017) — Volkswagen of America, Inc. is pleased to announce that Cars.com has named the 2018 Volkswagen Atlas and the all-new 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan to the “Car Seat Check Honor Roll.” The Car Seat Check Honor Roll recognizes the cars that Cars.com experts have tested during the past year that have ample room for at least two car seats and have Latch anchors that make car-seat installation easier. Only 10 vehicles, out of 65 2017 and 2018 models tested, earned the top grade of A in all the categories. Volkswagen was the only brand to have two vehicles named to the Honor Roll.

“Volkswagen grew its family this year to include two new SUVs designed specifically for American families,” said Derrick Hatami, Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Volkswagen of America, Inc. “We are pleased to be recognized for this important element of family-friendliness in Atlas and Tiguan.”

To perform its Car Seat Check, Cars.com has certified child passenger safety technicians conduct hands-on tests of a car’s Latch system and check the vehicle’s ability to accommodate different types of car seats (infant seat, convertible seat and booster seat). Cars are scored on an A to F scale.

“The new-for-2018 Atlas changes everything: It's roomy, loaded with family-friendly features and excels when it comes to car seats,” said Jennifer Newman, Editor-in-Chief, Cars.com. “There's three sets of Latch anchors across the second row, and three car seats installed easily and fit well.”

The 2018 Tiguan, which recently won Cars.com’s Compact SUV Challenge, was praised for its new larger size and available third row. Newman said, “The Tiguan is a great option for families.”

Starting at $25,195, the 2018 Tiguan is available with a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine and has four trim levels available—S, SE, SEL, and SEL Premium. Starting at $30,500, the 2018 Atlas is available with two engine options—a 2.0-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder (later availability) and a 3.6-liter V6—and in five trim levels—S, SE, SE w/ Technology, SEL, and SEL Premium. Both offer 4Motion® all-wheel drive on a variety of trims.

Both the 2018 Atlas and 2018 Tiguan carry a six-year/72,000-mile New Vehicle Limited Warranty that includes coverage of powertrain components—including the engine, transmission and optional 4Motion® all-wheel-drive system. Major competitors offer a three-year/36,000 mile basic warranty with a five-year or 60,000-mile powertrain warranty. Not only does the Volkswagen SUV bumper-to-bumper warranty offer longer coverage than its main competitors, all of its elements can be transferred to subsequent owners—up to 6 years or 72,000 miles, whichever occurs first.

VOLKSWAGEN MARKS 50 YEARS OF BAJA DESERT RACING

0

  • The 50th BFGoodrich Tires SCORE Baja 1000® will run in November, featuring its traditional classes for Volkswagen-powered vehicles
  • The Beetle has more wins in the Baja 1000 than any other model of vehicle

HERNDON, VA (October 4th, 2017) — This November, hundreds of racers and thousands of motorsport fans will gather in Mexico for the running of the 50th BFGoodrich Tires SCORE Baja 1000®, one of the most grueling and demanding races on the planet. And as always, the race will feature “Baja Bugs”—modified Volkswagen Beetle vehicles—as well as Spartan racers using Beetle running gear that have shown their mettle across the deserts for five decades and counting in Mexico and the U.S.

Born from the dune buggy and off-roading culture of southern California in the ‘60s, the SCORE Baja 1000 has become renowned in motorsports for the scope of the challenge, both in terms of distance and terrain. In 2017, the race course will be approximately 1200 miles long, starting in Ensenada and finishing in La Paz, and is the last round of the four-race 2017 SCORE World Desert Championship. This will be the 43rd time the iconic race has started in Ensenada and the 21st time it will finish in La Paz. Throughout, drivers and navigators encounter rocks, steep gullies, washboard roads, blinding dust and sand pits—all of which only becomes more dangerous when racing at night.

The first race, known then as the Mexican 1000, was held on Oct. 31, 1967, running between Tijuana and La Paz. Of the 68 vehicles that started the first race, only 31 completed the 950-mile trek, with the winning drivers finishing in 27 hours and 38 minutes. There was no certified course—just five checkpoints that teams had to stop at; how they navigated between checkpoints on the dirt roads and trails was up to them. While motorcycles led much of the race, the victory went to Vic Wilson and Ted Mangels, driving a Meyers Manx dune buggy built by Bruce Meyers off a Volkswagen Beetle chassis.

The Meyers Manx was the first four-wheeler to attempt the run, and Meyers sparked the rise of the Baja Bug, a Beetle modified for the harsh environment of desert racing. The modern SCORE Baja 1000 still runs several VW-themed classes, including one for stock-engined, air-cooled Beetle vehicles. Other organizations, such as the Mojave Off-Road Racing Enthusiasts in California, also run these Volkswagen racers. One such Class 11 car, built by Desert Dingo Racing, was acquired by Volkswagen of America as part of its Heritage Collection of historically important VW models.

Volkswagen celebrates the enthusiasts from Bruce Meyers on who made Baja racing a daring test of skill and endurance for 50 years—and counting.

Electric car buyers guide

0

The e-up! is the electric version of Volkswagen’s multi-award-winning city car. The e-up! has all the attributes that make its petrol-powered sibling such a success – room for four adults and their luggage, nippy handling and the equipment and feel of a much larger car.

Based on the multi-award-winning Golf hatchback, the e-Golf offers the same virtues of practicality, refinement and advanced technology, but with a purely electric drivetrain and no tailpipe emissions.

The name of Golf GTE reflects its standing in the line-up alongside the petrol-powered GTI and diesel GTD, while its pricing also reinforces this position. The new car is driven by two engines: a 1.4-litre 150 PS TSI direct-injection petrol engine and a 102 PS electric motor. Together, they produce a maximum power of 204 PS and a theoretical range of 580 miles.

The eagerly awaited Passat GTE plug in hybrid is now available to order. Like the Golf GTE, it has two engines: a 1.4 litre 156 PS TSI direct injection and a 115 PS electric motor, producing a maximum of 218PS when combined. The Passat GTE will be available in both Saloon and Estate forms and will have a 0-62 mph time of 7.4 seconds.

Volkswagen continues on successful course

  • Group's core brand reports further growth in sales revenue and operating profit before special items in third quarter
  • "Transform 2025+" strategy brings sustainable results
  • Cost development remains under control despite biggest product offensive in history of brand
  • Turnaround program in North America taking hold
  • Return on sales for 2017 as a whole expected to be moderately higher than previously forecast range of 2.5 to 3.5 percent (before special items)
  • Brand CEO Diess: "We are well on the way to achieving our key strategic goals"

The Volkswagen brand continued its successful business development in the third quarter of 2017. Sales revenue from January to September based on the new demarcation between the Group and the brand, which has been applied since the beginning of the year, climbed 8.3 percent compared with the previous year to €58.9 billion. In the first nine months, Volkswagen more than doubled operating profit before special items to €2.5 (1.2) billion. This was impacted by additional provisions for the buyback/retrofit program for 2.0l TDI vehicles in North America in approximately the same amount already announced by the Group and recognized in the brand's figures for the third quarter. Adjusted for this special item, the brand's operating margin improved to 4.3 (1.6) percent after nine months. In light of the good development, Volkswagen has slightly raised its forecast for 2017 as a whole. The Brand Board of Management expects the operating return on sales (before special items) to be moderately higher than the previously forecast range of 2.5 to 3.5 percent.

"The Volkswagen brand is systematically implementing its Transform 2025+ strategy. Our model offensive is increasingly paying off, the turnaround programs in the markets are taking hold, the brand's new strategic orientation is producing good results overall. Our operational earning power has improved faster than we anticipated and we are well on the way to achieving our key strategic targets: to make Volkswagen competitive for tomorrow's mobility", Dr. Herbert Diess, CEO of the Volkswagen brand, said.

Deliveries to customers reflect this positive development at the Volkswagen brand in the first nine months. 4.49 million vehicles were handed over to customers worldwide in the period up to the end of September, an increase of 2.7 percent compared with the previous year. Deliveries gathered significant momentum as the year progressed, with particularly strong gains in the South America region during the first nine months (+24.0 percent). The situation in the home market of Germany, where the debate on the future of diesel powertrains affected deliveries during the course of the year, is also showing signs of recovery.

"Volkswagen has sent a strong signal so far this year with new models and the associated trend in unit deliveries We have returned to growth in all regions – and have every reason to look to the future with optimism", Jürgen Stackmann, Brand Board Member for Sales, commented.

Financial figures further improved, forecast for return on sales raised

The visible market success has been a significant factor in positive sales development so far this year. Volume, mix and margin effects had a positive impact on operating profit before special items. This upward trend was also attributable to further improvements in the cost situation, in part as a result of the successful implementation of the Future Pact agreed the previous year. Despite the continued product offensive, fixed costs were maintained at the level of the previous year. Ongoing progress with the turnaround in North America and Russia also contributed to the improvement in the margin situation.

For the remainder of the year, the Volkswagen Brand Board of Management expects the positive business development of the first three quarters to continue. On a comparable basis, sales revenue is still forecast to rise by about 10 percent over the previous year. The operating return on sales before special items is now expected to be moderately higher than the range of 2.5 to 3.5 percent. In light of the future investments expected during the coming years, Volkswagen's medium- and long-term return on sales targets of at least 4 percent by 2020 rising to 6 percent by 2025 remain unchanged.

Dr. Arno Antlitz, Volkswagen Brand Board Member for Finance, commented: "Step by step, we will achieve a sustained improvement in our earning power in the coming years. We will focus on further improving competitiveness, systematically implementing the turnaround in the regions, and continuing the biggest model offensive in the brand's history." In addition, Volkswagen will forge ahead with preparing for the offensive with innovative electric vehicles from 2020.

  • The next phase of the staggered market launch begins
  •  TV and print advertisements complement comprehensive digital activities
  • Focus on design, spatial concept and connectivity

Volkswagen is further developing the international marketing campaign for the market launch of the new Tiguan Allspace. Under the motto "The new Tiguan Allspace 7-seater," the digital activities, which have been ongoing since the official pre-sales launch, will be complemented with TV, print and poster advertisement.

The new Tiguan Allspace is the long-wheelbase version of the best-selling Tiguan, offering a slightly modified design, greater flexibility in the interior and an attractive equipment range. At the same time, with the optional third row of seats, the Tiguan Allspace can seat up to seven people. The 360° marketing campaign underlines these qualities, illustrating how the Tiguan Allspace perfectly combines spaciousness, flexibility and connectivity features.

"The new Tiguan Allspace is a perfect fit for all drivers and families who have, until now, been reliant on vans for the space they require, but are looking for the design and convenient equipment of our successful Tiguan model. The campaign combines humour and feeling in demonstrating just how the Tiguan Allspace offers comfort, modern design and room for adventures as one complete package," noted Jürgen Stackmann, member of the Volkswagen Board of Management responsible for Sales.

The TV advert uses humour to show how the Tiguan Allspace's innovative spatial concept with up to seven seats is full of surprises. At a wedding with a twist, the Tiguan Allspace helps guests arrive just in the nick of time.

The print campaign also highlights the Tiguan Allspace's expandable seating arrangement and showcases the vehicle at various viewpoints outside the gates to the city. What's more, the highlights of the new Tiguan Allspace, such as the gesture command and Cam-Connect, are presented to the relevant target groups via social media channels in an entertaining online film, shown from the perspective of a dog.

The creative agency responsible for the campaign is Grabarz & Partner.

Make sure winter doesn't put a spanner in the works with a Volkswagen winter health check

0
0

A Volkswagen Winter Health Check can ensure your vehicle is ready to face the worst of the winter weather. Available from participating Volkswagen Retailers nationwide, the central element of this seasonal service is the Express Visual Check. This 34-point inspection is intended to help identify any parts that require work or replacement for safety reasons. It will also point out areas of the car that may require attention at a later date.

All of the information gleaned from the check is relayed to the customer via a simple ‘traffic light’ reporting system where green means an item is in full working order; yellow means it is safe and legal, but may need maintenance in the future; and red means it could require immediate attention.

Among items included in the Winter Health Check are tyre pressures and tyre tread depths, both of which are important for safe winter motoring thanks, of course, to the season’s often difficult driving conditions.

The Volkswagen Winter Health Check also sees the car washed and vacuumed so that it is returned in good cosmetic, as well as mechanical, condition. Customers can keep their car in tip-top shape through the worst of the weather, too, as they go home with a car care kit that comprises anti-freeze, de-icer, rubber care materials and a handy ice scraper.

Last year thousands of UK motorists helped to ensure their cars were prepared for winter by purchasing a check from their Volkswagen Retailer.

The GTI for rallying: With the Polo GTI R5, Volkswagen returns to rallying under a new guise. In the second half of 2018, Volkswagen will make the 270 hp rally version of the Polo available to professional teams and aspiring drivers to enable them to compete in championships across the globe – including the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC). A sketch of the car, which is based on the new Polo of the sixth generation, gives a foretaste of what’s to come.

“With the Polo GTI R5 we are hoping to transfer our expertise from four WRC titles to customer racing successfully, and offer a first-class racing machine for countless rally championships from national series to the WRC,” said Volkswagen Motorsport Director Sven Smeets. “Before the first race outing next year, we will subject the Polo GTI R5 to rigorous testing to make sure it is prepared for the extremely varied track conditions around the world.”

The development of the Polo GTI R5 has been in full swing since the start of the year, with initial test drives planned for this year. The experience gained from the successful WRC era is being incorporated directly: Volkswagen Motorsport Technical Director François-Xavier “FX” Demaison, father of the record winning Polo R WRC, is responsible for the development of the Polo GTI R5. And Gerard-Jan de Jongh also brings all his expertise as the senior project engineer. The Dutchman was previously Sébastien Ogier’s race engineer; Ogier won the drivers’ title with Volkswagen four times in a row.

Like the production model – which is due to be launched at the end of this year – the Polo GTI R5 has a powerful four-cylinder turbo engine with direct fuel injection. Other features include four-wheel drive, a sequential five-speed racing transmission and a comprehensive safety package, which are the most important features of the R5 category brought into being by the international automobile association, the FIA, in 2012. This gives privateers, teams and importers the opportunity to contest national, regional and international championships with cost-effective, powerful rally cars.

For Volkswagen Motorsport, the Polo GTI R5 represents another important milestone in their strategic realignment: After the successful introduction of the Golf GTI TCR, which has brought home wins and titles in numerous championships on the circuit since 2016, Volkswagen Motorsport is expanding its involvement in customer racing to rallying.

Polo and T-Roc attain top safety ratings - 5 stars from euro NCAP for the newest Volkswagen

0
0

The two latest Volkswagen models attain very good figures in all key test areas: ‘Adult Occupant’, ‘Child Occupant’, ‘Pedestrian’ and ‘Safety Assist’ (assistance systems). Dr Frank Welsch, Member of the Volkswagen Brand Board of Management responsible for Development: "Volkswagen has been democratising safety for decades now. The outstanding Euro NCAP ratings for the Polo and T-Roc demonstrate once again how we are making maximum safety available to the drivers of mini and compact models as well." The Polo is available at prices from 12,975 euros, and the T-Roc from 20,390 euros (prices for Germany). The base versions of both the Polo and the T-Roc are already well equipped with six airbags, ESC including counter steering assistance, the Automatic Post-Collision Braking System and the Front Assist area monitoring system with City Emergency Braking and Pedestrian Monitoring. The T-Roc also comes with the Lane Assist lane keeping system as standard.

The Polo in Euro NCAP testing. The new Polo was tested in the class of ‘Superminis’ in the European New Car Assessment Programme (Euro NCAP). In the tests, Euro NCAP examines the loads to which ‘adult occupants’ are subjected in various accident scenarios. In this rating, the Polo attained a very good value of 96 per cent (out of a maximum of 100 per cent) in its class. The Polo also received an impressive rating in the side impact test that is challenging in vehicle design – because the crush zones on the sides are of course smaller than those at the front and rear.

Commenting on both the crash test with a side barrier and the crash test with a side pole, Euro NCAP noted that "the protection of all critical body areas is good; and the Polo attained maximum points". In the ‘Child Occupant’ protection test area, Euro NCAP rated the Polo with a figure of 85 per cent – a new top figure in its segment. In its competitive field, the new compact model also achieved exemplary figures in ‘Pedestrian’ protection (76 per cent) and in the area for assistance systems, ‘Safety Assist’ (59 per cent).

The T-Roc in Euro NCAP testing. At the same time, the first compact SUV from Volkswagen also achieved top figures: the new T-Roc. It was categorised in the segment of ‘Compact SUVs’, a class that also includes much larger SUVs. The results for the T-Roc were consistently impressive. Consider ‘Adult Occupant’: here, the SUV received a rating of 96 per cent.

The T-Roc also finished very well in the ‘Child Occupant’ protection rating with a result of 87 per cent. Here tests were performed with dummies in child seats. Consider the offset frontal crash and side impact: Euro NCAP commented: "In the Front Offset Test, protection of all critical body areas of the two child dummies was good. Similarly, protection of all critical body areas of the dummies was also good in the side impact test." Deformable front body elements and standard pedestrian detection also result in a figure of 79 per cent for ‘Pedestrian’ protection, which is remarkable in the competitive field. In addition, the new T-Roc attained top figures in the ‘Safety Assist' area for its assistance systems.

The European New Car Assessment Programme. Euro NCAP is an international and independent consortium of governments and non- governmental organisations. The headquarters of Euro NCAP are located in Brussels (Belgium). The stated mission of Euro NCAP is to provide automobile buyers with information on the safety of the most popular vehicles sold in Europe in a timely manner.

Los Angeles Auto Show 2017: Volkswagen will shape electric mobility of the future

0
0
  • Strategic reorientation of the brand towards electric mobility is being rigorously pursued
  • The first model from the I.D. Family for the US market will be an SUV
  • New electronics architecture forms the basis for digital services that enhance everyday driving

At the Los Angeles Auto Show Volkswagen is offering visitors a look at the future of its electric mobility campaign. Volkswagen is presenting three show cars at the Californian show – the compact I.D., the spacious I.D. BUZZ and the elegant I.D.CROZZ SUV. They represent a completely new vehicle architecture that has been consistently designed for electric drive systems. By 2025 the Volkswagen brand plans to sell one million electric vehicles per year and is aiming to be the market leader in electric mobility. The first model from the all-electric I.D. Family for Europe will be a compact model, while in the USA the first model will be an SUV.

"Cars stand for freedom and individuality", says Jürgen Stackmann, Member of the Board of Management of the Volkswagen brand responsible for Sales, Marketing and After-Sales. "The mistakes of the past have speeded up many things at Volkswagen and a real opportunity arises from the crisis. We believe in electric mobility and in a great future for the automobile. It is the most important means of transport in the USA accounting for almost 80 per cent of passenger kilometers travelled."

The Volkswagen brand will meet the challenges of the future with the I.D. models. They are based on the all-electric architecture that will be used group-wide. The new e-vehicles offer zero-emission long-distance travel, fast charging capability and spacious, flexible interiors. "The special features of our architecture are the new proportions with long wheelbases and short overhangs", says Christian Senger, head of the e-mobility product line at Volkswagen, and he adds: "This enables us to create a completely new space concept offering great flexibility for vehicle occupants and cargo."

Senger uses the example of the I.D. compact car to demonstrate how the size of the interior has grown: "It has the exterior dimensions of a Golf, but offers as much interior space as a Passat." This is possible thanks to a space-saving axially parallel e-drive and the high-voltage battery housed in the vehicle floor. This also applies to all other body shapes: "The all-electric architecture enables all kinds of different vehicle types to be developed, from the compact class to a seven-seater SUV."

In Los Angeles Stackmann revealed that in addition to the three models already presented (compact vehicle, SUV and MPV) new members will be added to the I.D. Family in future, including a saloon. Not only do all models have electric drive as a common feature, but also a new kind of connectivity. Instead of a large number of control units, in future the vehicle electrical system will have powerful central board computers with central software that can always be updated and upgraded. This new architecture is the basis for new digital in-car services that enhance everyday driving.

"The technological innovations we are currently working on will further increase the potential of the automobile", says Stackmann. "As well as a highly attractive design and numerous ways of meeting individual customer requirements, we will do everything we can to meet the growing demands that people make on sustainable mobility."

This starts with approaching customers in the right way. In a joint project with the US software group Adobe, potential customers are targeted in social networks and will then find information on the I.D. generation customized according to their profiles on a new Volkswagen internet portal.

Even before visiting a Volkswagen dealership customers can virtually experience the new electric vehicles, also in unusual places. Stackmann says: "We are cooperating with Microsoft here: augmented reality allows us to present the new car virtually in space or in a particular place with the help of HoloLens glasses, for example in cafés and shopping malls."

Further cooperation between Volkswagen and an IT group concerns infotainment being realized together with IBM called Predictive We Services. The basis for this is the digital assistant "Watson", who researches possible intermediate destinations for shopping or dinner online and is also able to book them with voice command during the journey.

"For more than 70 years Volkswagen's strength has been in making technologies and above all mobility accessible to people, regardless of the drive system. And that's the way it will be in the future. We make high quality electric mobility accessible to everyone", is how Jürgen Stackmann summarizes Volkswagen's targets.

LED is the new xenon – Daylight-bright headlights for safety through the winter months

0
0
  • Polo to Arteon: eleven Volkswagen models have LED headlights
  • Top LED system: predictive cornering lights

In Europe, the sun is rising around 7 am these days, and it already dips back below the horizon around 4 pm. That makes for a short nine hour period of daylight. By 21 December – the first day of winter on the calendar – the sun has an even shorter appearance. Many people consider it stressful to drive in the dark and under winter weather conditions that are often harsh. That is why Volkswagen is offering relief in the form of powerful LED headlights. They are replacing xenon systems in growing numbers of model series – from the Polo to the Arteon. The LED headlights even come as standard in 22 equipment versions – including all three lines of the Arteon. If the car is also equipped with the optional ‘Active Lighting System', its interactive LED headlights utilise data from the front camera and navigation system to predictively illuminate the next curve.

Details of the Volkswagen LED headlights as illustrated by the Arteon: the standard LED projection system offers significantly better lighting performance than good halogen headlights. The LED modules also offer very long operating life. Moreover, the LED dipped and main beam lights emit light with a colour temperature of white daylight into the dark (instead of a yellow colour tone as with halogen lights). This reduces eye strain and makes car driving more relaxed. The two higher-level versions of the Arteon (the Elegance and R-Line) also feature the automatic main beam control system Light Assist; it is camera-based and automatically activates and deactivates the main beam in response to oncoming traffic.

As an option for the Arteon and many other models, Volkswagen offers what are known as full-LED headlights in projection technology with supplemental adaptive lighting functions. Two lighting modules positioned next to one another project the light onto the road via a lens. The white colour of the light makes a brighter impression than the light from xenon headlights. The outer module is known as a multibeam lens module which can be used to implement adaptive lighting functions such as special city lighting, country road lighting, poor weather lighting, motorway lighting, main beam lighting and advanced main beam lighting. Meanwhile, the inner flat beam lens module ensures optimal illumination of the near zone.

Volkswagen offers this expansion stage of LED headlights in the Arteon in conjunction with the ‘Active Lighting System'. It includes such features as dynamic control of the ‘Dynamic Light Assist' and the ‘dynamic cornering light with predictive control'. As an option, ‘Dynamic Light Assist' can keep the main beam constantly activated from a speed of 60 km/h. Here, a camera-based masking function controls the LED modules in such a way that they illuminate the road optimally without disturbing other road users with glare. The ‘dynamic cornering light with predictive control' illuminates bends via the lens modules with their variable control according to the steering angle. New here is the interactive functionality of being able to do this predictively as well – independent of steering angle – based on data from the front camera and the navigation system. In this manner, the Arteon is able to illuminate the upcoming bend in the road before the driver steers into it. This enables the driver to see the bend clearly much sooner. In addition, the light pattern of the headlights is directed optimally towards the radius of the bend.

An overview of the eleven Volkswagen that currently offer LED headlights (partly optional):

  • Polo
  • Golf
  • Golf Variant
  • Golf Sportsvan
  • T-Roc
  • Touran
  • Tiguan
  • Tiguan Allspace

  • Innovative driver assistance systems and great efficiency make the 200 PS Polo the compact sports car of a new generation
  • First Polo with Front Assist area monitoring system and optionally with fully digital instruments (Active Info Display)
  • Industry specialists Bähr & Fess predict: in 2021 the Polo will have the highest residual value of all small cars

As an end-of-year highlight, Volkswagen is beginning advance sales of the new Polo GTI. Featuring output of 147 kW / 200 PS1 and details such as dual clutch gearbox (DSG), sports running gear, sports seats and 17-inch alloy wheels, the most powerful Polo in the range costs €23,950 (in Germany). The new compact sports car is a further high point in the legendary GTI story, for in this Polo the start button for the 320 Newton metre TSI engine becomes a quasi trigger for a fantastic driving experience. However this GTI too offers more than just pure dynamic handling. Performance is accompanied as ever by supreme safety and great comfort – the secret of the GTI concept's success.

With a 6-speed dual-clutch gearbox, the new Polo GTI accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.7 seconds. Top speed: 237 km/h. Fuel consumption of 5.9 litres per 100 km reflects the drive system's efficiency. Further characteristic features: firm sports-oriented running gear that is also good for long-distance driving, assured front-wheel drive and an expressive exterior and interior design. Topped off with classic GTI insignia such as the typical red stripe in the radiator grille, the GTI gear knob and the legendary 'Clark' plaid seat covers.

Optional highlights include fully digital instruments (Active Info Display), LED headlights, a whole armada of further driver assistance systems, adjustable sports running gear, 18-inch alloy wheels for the first time, the largest panoramic sliding sunroof of any car in this class and a 300-watt Beats sound system.

The new Polo GTI is based on the product line's sixth generation, which was launched this summer. It is currently experiencing the utmost recognition from all sides: in November the new Polo was awarded the maximum achievable five stars in the EuroNCAP crash tests. Now in December industry specialists Bähr & Fess Forecasts have published their latest analysis on how well all current cars retain their value. According to them the new Polo is the small car that will have the highest residual value in 2021 – a reflection of the quality and durability of the compact Volkswagen.

The stage is set for the rally GTI

0
0

The stage is set for the rally GTI: The Volkswagen Polo GTI R5 enjoyed a successful world premiere. The four-wheel drive rally car for customer sports, which is based on the sixth and latest generation of the new Polo, was introduced to the public for the first time at the official driving presentation of the Polo GTI² in Mallorca on Monday evening. The development of the new rally sports car incorporated the experience and know-how acquired whilst winning four world titles in the pinnacle of rallying, the WRC, from 2013 to 2016.

“Presenting the new Polo GTI R5 to the public was a magnificent moment,” said Volkswagen Motorsport Director Sven Smeets. “The close relationship to the road-going Polo GTI is unmistakable. In the rally Polo, the GTI family has another spectacular ambassador. Our team and the colleagues at Volkswagen Design in Wolfsburg deserve great credit for this. Over the coming months, the Polo GTI R5 must prove itself in a series of tough scenarios, in order to ensure that it can build on the success of its predecessor in the customers’ hands.”

Initial tests successful, homologation planned for late summer 2018

Development of the Polo GTI R5 has been in full swing since the start of the year. Initial tests on asphalt and gravel took place in mid-November in Fontjoncouse, France, and will continue in Great Britain in December. Responsibility for the entire project lies with Technical Director François-Xavier “FX” Demaison, as well as Project Manager Jan de Jongh, who, as race engineer, looked after world champion Sébastien Ogier’s Polo R WRC from 2013 to 2016.

“The Polo GTI R5 came through the initial tests without any problems. The feedback from the test drivers was very positive,” says Demaison. “It is obviously beneficial to be able to call upon an experienced team of engineers and mechanics, who helped to develop the Polo that won the world championship. And it goes without saying that, as we have in the past, we are also taking advantage of the close and excellent cooperation with the colleagues in the technical development department in Wolfsburg, as well as our Škoda colleagues, who have been offering their customers an R5 car since 2015.”

As in the GTI for the streets: four-cylinder turbo engine with direct fuel injection

Like the production model – the new Polo GTI – the Polo GTI R5 has a powerful straight four-cylinder turbo engine with direct fuel injection, which is mounted transversely in front of the front axle. The capacity of the rally car is limited to 1.6 litres, in accordance with regulations. This is sufficient to generate an impressive 200 kW (272 hp) and maximum torque of 400 Newton metres. A close-stepped, sequential, five-speed racing gearbox and permanent four-wheel drive achieve outstanding acceleration on any surface – whether asphalt, gravel or snow. Weighing just 1,320 kilograms, the rally GTI accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.1 seconds.

The four-door, steel chassis, which serves as the basis for the assembly, is manufactured at the production plant in Pamplona, Spain. In accordance with FIA regulations, it is strengthened with a role cage and other safety components. The Polo GTI R5 will be homologated in the summer of 2018. The first deliveries to customer sports teams, and the first competitive outings, are planned for the second half of the year.

In 2012, the International Automobile Federation FIA passed the R5 regulations for a new generation of rally cars, aimed primarily at customer teams, talented youngsters and privateers. Since then, more than 400 cars have been produced by five different manufacturers and have been in action in national and international championships all over the world.

¹ Polo GTI R5: The concept vehicle has not gone on sale, and therefore Directive 1999/94 EC does not apply.

² Polo GTI (147 kW/200 PS) fuel consumption in l/100 km: urban 7,7 / extra-urban 4,9 / combined 5,9; CO2-emissions (combined) in g/km: 134; efficiency class: C.

New record: Volkswagen produces six million vehicles throughout the world by year-end

0
0
  • Production record thanks to largest model offensive and growing demand from customers across the globe
  • Volkswagen Jetta, Golf, Santana, Passat and Polo lead rankings
  • More than 60 models in product portfolio
  • Brand produces vehicles at more than 50 plants in 14 countries

By the end of the year, Volkswagen will produce more than six million vehicles, setting a new record. The largest model offensive to date in the history of the Volkswagen Group's core brand and growing demand from customers across the globe have led to the new record. The Volkswagen Jetta, Golf, Santana, Passat and Polo lead the brand's global production rankings.

Thomas Ulbrich, Member of the Board of Management of the Volkswagen brand responsible for Production and Logistics, sees a clear signal: "More than six million vehicles produced in 12 months - there is one thing that this shows above all: our plants and employees are continually improving their production competence. We have top teams in production which successfully master growing demand from customers."

This development is driven by the long-standing best-sellers Jetta, Golf, Santana, Passat and Polo, growing demand for the Tiguan and recently launched products such as the new Polo, Arteon and T-Roc. Overseas models have also contributed to the production record. The Chinese Santana sedan is an especially popular model.

The Volkswagen brand produces vehicles at more than 50 plants in 14 countries. Since series production started with the original Beetle 72 years ago, more than 150 million Volkswagens have rolled off the production lines. The brand's global product portfolio now includes over 60 models.

Within the framework of the TRANSFORM 2025+ strategy for the future, the Volkswagen Group's core brand is stepping up its model offensive. In 2017 alone, Volkswagen launched more than 10 new models throughout the world. Over the next few years, the entire product range is to be renewed and expanded in core segments such as SUVs and e-mobility. In this first phase, especially the brand's presence in the SUV segment is to be boosted. By 2020, the brand will offer 19 SUV models throughout the world and will increase the share of SUVs in the overall model range to 40 percent. In the second phase, from 2020 onwards, the brand is to build up a comprehensive family of full-electric vehicles on the basis of an entirely new electric architecture. The I.D. will be the automobile future of Volkswagen. The family will include the I.D., I.D. Crozz and I.D. Buzz. These three models are part of the initial formation which Volkswagen will be introducing at rapid intervals from 2020 onwards to launch its worldwide electric offensive.  In 2025, one million electric Volkswagens are to reach the roads.
